Jumping ahead to Step 9:
I don't know why this lug standoff wasn't included on the laser cut sheet. Not a problem, there is plenty of extra balsa left over.
Here I've extended the lines on the standoff template. I can cut out the standoff by setting the balsa over the plan. This way I'm not cutting up the instruction sheet.
The supplied lug is the correct length of the top side of the standoff.
They did not include the launch lug guide in the 2014 Striker AGM instructions. I can see where they should be on page 1 of the instructions, but where you have the guide, just past the ruler that extends 8 inches. I just have a ruler that extends 10 inches. At least I can see yours and estimate it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteReal happy with results. I measured the lug (2 inches) and used Zona saw and miter box to extend wood ends at 45 degree angles. Then with ruler on cutting board and ruler on top of wood I was able to make a 1/4th inch deep cut and extract my standoff.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting -
ReplyDeleteThe online Quest instructions: http://www.questaerospace.com/instructions/2020.pdf
show a standoff cut into the balsa sheet.
Glad you were able to work it out.
Good catch and thanks for the link. I think my balsa was cracked during shipping but my fins were OK. I keep most of my old balsa and still have about 1/2 of the AGM balsa but no standoff. I was happy making mine from scratch - something new for me. I used a caliper to ensure both sides were at .21 inches.
