After the filler has dried, I used a sanding block with 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out and bring the filler almost down to the balsa surface.
Sanding with the block guarantees a smooth conical surface. the top edge of the block is taking down the lip formed by the raised filler in the last step.
After the angled sides of the adapter are sanded, the adapter is set fully down into the adjoining tube.
Again with the block, the sides of the adapter are sanded to match the diameter of the lower tube.
Fold a small piece of 400 grit in half with a sharp crease.
Open the joint just enough for the folded edge of the sandpaper.
Run the sandpaper around the lip. Use the body tube as a guide and take off any overhanging filler from the balsa.
