Semroc Defender Build Part 5 Paint Plan

After reading reviews on the Defender build, others had suggested painting the interior engine mount tubes before gluing everything together. Looking at the face card illustration, the three interior tubes are all black.
I should mask the gluing surfaces and pre-paint this tube assembly.

The lower ST-16 tube section is 2" long so masking tape was set a little below the 2" mark to allow a little black "underlap". The same went for the upper mask. The longer ST-16 tube overlaps the engine mount tubes 1 1/8". The tape was set down about 1 1/16" from the top.

I had tried the new CWF mix ratio for body tube seams. The ratio is 4 parts CWF to 1 part water.
The filler stayed in the seams after sanding. After spraying with primer, I couldn't see the body tube seams!

It didn't take the normal amount of sanding of the primer down to the surface because the seams were better filled. I only had to sand down the primer roughness a bit.
This new CWF mix should save time and additional sprays of primer.
