Launch! Orlando R.O.C.K. February 2, 2013
Cool weather, clear skies and low winds!
Roger Smith was busy taking pictures - you can see them all HERE
The launch shots in this blog post were taken by Roger.
After a few "no-gos" Tom Tweit launched his Dude with an E11-4.
Right after the inset picture was taken the wind caught it, a fin shredded and it went unstable. After all that it was still fully inflated.
Randy Kloko joined us for the first time.
His Dr. Zooch Explorer was lost after a high boost on a C6 engine.
The rocket was bought at the Kennedy Space Center Gift Shop - pre-built!
Dave Ribakoff built a long conical model - The UNI ABM.
Stringer formers ran down a central tube and a card stock cone was set glued onto the stringers.
He had a successful launch and recovery with a C6-5.
Here's my two C6-5 birds:
The Quest AEROSPACE ONE wiggled on the way up. A D12-5 is really a better match for this model but todays' C6 was still respectable.
Inset picture: Another Quest model the TOMAHAWK coned on the way up.
The boost was a little into the northwest and drifted into the adjoining field.
In addition to flying a very cool Star Speeder, Brent York (Rogue Aerospace) showed me a Contact Launch Controller.
Brent had bought much of the old MRC inventory including parts, launchers and controllers. This Contact controller was relabeled with the Rogue Aerospace branding.
Between his R.S.O. duties, our R.O.C.K. Club President Brian Coyle sneaks in a few flights.
Here's his Dr. Zooch Saturn 1B leaving the launcher.
Enlarge the picture and find the pink igniter plug after it bounced off the blast deflector. Look to the left below the center.
My also flowns:
Quest COBALT on a Quest A6-4. Stable, no damage on recovery.
Odd'l Rockets UP! CUP with a Estes C6-3. Stable and driven hard.
Dr. Zooch SATURN V with an Estes B6-4. My best flight of the day.
Carded Downscale SKY WRITER with a Quest Micro Maxx engine. Still my skinniest and highest flying MMX rocket.
