Freedom 7 Build Part 11 Tower

Here's where I made some changes in the tower construction.
I placed this assembly over the top of the capsule, dry with no glue.

The angle you see in the picture is how the tower legs would sit on top of the antenna fairing. I wanted the tower leg base to be wider at the bottom, taper and be smaller at the top -
Sort of a tall trapezoid or lampshade shape.
The way it is now, the top will be a little wider than the bottom

This could just be my model, two different antenna fairings build by two different people wouldn't have the same diameter. For this tower to be right, bottom should be wider than the top.
Rather than re-wrap and widen the diameter of the antenna fairing, I decided to narrow the span of the top of the tower legs. This was done by insetting the legs into the base of the dowel.

All three were carefully cut off. I could easily see where they should go, the bare wood of the dowel gave the locations.

Small "V" notches were cut with a sharp knife tip. The tip of a small round diamond file was spun in the notch to round it out.
This picture shows one leg in place with no glue holding it in the notch.

This turned out to be a stronger attachment and made the span of the tops of the tower legs smaller.
If you compare the first and third pictures you can see the difference.
