Orlando R.O.C.K. Monthly Launch November 3, 2012

It started out to be a clear, cool, low wind morning.
Orlando's R.O.C.K. section hadn't had a monthly launch in a while. I came with plenty of models.

Rick Horne flew his FlisKits TRES with a three engine cluster of B6-4 engines.
Estes igniters were used with great success. At apogee you could hear the pop, pop, pop, of the ejections.
A beautiful build and flight.

One of my better flights of the day was the Quest TOMAHAWK with an Estes C6-5 engine.

It came down close to the trees on the south end of the field.
One fin was loose on landing, the same fin that has been knocked loose on two previous flights.

Tom Tweit had the most interesting flight of the day with his Art Applewhite Three Stage Cone.
The engines: D12-0, C6-0 to an A10-3t. That's a 24mm to an 18mm to a 13mm.

The D12 booster got it to a respectable altitude before the C6-0 was lit.
At the third stage ignition it veered off to the east.

The two booster stages float slowly down with no tumble.

Ken Cooper's Bi-Way Boost Glider went horizontal at boost and landed on the hood of my car.

No damage to my car's hood. I can't say the same for the glider though.
My new Estes V2 had a great boost with an Estes D12-3 engine.
Full 18" parachute recovery, but the winds had picked up a bit.
It ended up high in a tree on the south side of the field.

First flight - LOST!
Well, not lost. I know where it is, too high in the tree to be recovered.
That inset launch picture was taken by Roger Smith.

Also lost in action was the upper stage of the new Estes MIDGET clone.
The booster was loaded with an A10-0t engine, the sustainer with an 1/2A3-4t.

At staging it flew east over the trees. The streamer ejected but the winds didn't bring it back onto the field.
I searched the trees but with no luck.

Two models lost on their first flight!
I rarely lose models. It must be time to trim the herd!

My also flowns:
Art Applewhite PINWHEEL with an A10-3t engine. When you are 30 feet away from the launcher, you can really see how high these (don't) get!
Hot Rod Rockets BELL BOTTOM. This model is indestructible. Today flown with an A3-4t engine.
Estes STINGRAY MK-109 with a B6-4 engine. Perfect boost and 12" parachute (spill hole cut) recovery.
