Estes Saros, K-54 Build, Fin Can Build, Part 10, Black Mask and Decals

One fin is masked and painted black.

Here I'm pressing and sealing the edge of the Scotch tape mask using a Q-tip. The Q-tip does the job and won't scar a wood fin like a fingernail could.

The original Estes decal sheet had a angled end on the long upper diagonal stripe.
I found out this end wasn't needed and actually made it harder to place and match up the shorter wrap around bands at the top and bottom.

Here's the upper section decals.
Be sure to pre-wet the body tube so you have some time to play with the alignment on the long diagonal decal.

I was lucky on the decal re-draw.
These wraps don't always match up with even spacing.

  1. Back a few months ago, before all the chaos of the Hobbico bankruptcy, John Boren hinted at a couple new future Estes models - could the Saros be that “2 color paint scheme bring-back” he hinted at? And now that the Saros build is almost done any hints from you Chris on what’s next? The new Estes Mini A Heli maybe?

    1. Hi Openroad,
Well, I don't want to give away which build is next. I have two other things being built right now, both will be on the blog. The Mini A Heli is on my list though. AC Supply has them available on their website but you can't add them to your shopping cart yet.
