On the left is the lower end with the clear fin can attached.
The nose cone got a simple coat of red paint.

  1. Neat way to do the fins...I've never liked the way opaque fins mess up the look of a scale model. I did something similar with one of my son's rockets. It was an Estes Viking modified to look like a PAC-3 missile. The fins were way too small for stable flight, so I made a set up out of cardstock. Didn't like the look, so I used a transparent document cover. Folded the plastic in half along the fin leading edge. Cut so I could bend at the fin root and join four fins connected to form the body tube. Slid right over the fins on the rocket. Flew great. I'll bring it out on the next launch.

  2. Hi Ron,
Great idea on the PAC3 clear fins.
On some of the older scale kits, you would make a clear fin material "envelope" that would slide over the smaller scale size fins -
on for flight and off for display.

  3. When I saw this rocket Saturday I was totally blown away by the quality of your paint job. I thought the balsa cone and transition were plastic because their finish was so perfect!
