BMS/Alway Saturn V Build, Part 1, Parts

This picture is from the first build I did, from a few years ago. The new kits have the red and white Odd'l Rockets style 18" parachute.
After a few kits were sent out, Bill at BMS realized the escape tower support pieces were cut incorrectly. He sent out replacement parts to all who ordered the kits.
One great thing about this kit is you are provided with extra laser cut parts, an extra nozzle and fairing. Some of the wood detail parts are very small. You'll appreciate the extra SIV-B Ullage Rockets after you've dropped one on the floor.

Some parts of interest: Clockwise from the top -

The half dowels used for the tunnels and other details
Many parts squeezed onto the laser cut plywood
Black vinyl for the adapter
Water slide decals
Pre-1982 (heavier) Pennies for nose weight, one drilled for a Kevlar tie
Small laser cut card stock for the tower

Look close at the 2" tube. All tunnel and detail locations are lightly laser marked on the tube.
At the bottom, the complex fairing cuts are done for you. Don't remove this tabbed cut until later in the build.

These are the thin, self-adhesive wraps that go around the body tubes.

  1. Do you happen to know if this kit is sold out or still available?

  2. Apparently still available on the Balsa Machining website. Pre-release price was $50.00 - now it’s $59.00 but if you want one it’s well worth the extra $9.

  3. Looks good Chris. I haven't done much rocketry related in the last few months (important things to square away at home), but I'll be watching this, for sure.

  4. What does this kit use for the body wraps ? Hopefully they are not the same style as the printed junk the old semi-scale BT60 Estes one did.

    1. Hi Anonymous,
There are no wide body wraps like in the old Estes BT-60 Saturn V kit. There are some thin self adhesive bands that add a lot of detail. Check out the picture in the first pre-build post: http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com/2018/07/bmsalway-saturn-v-build-background.html
