BMS/Alway Saturn V Build, Part 9, Fin Fairing Prep

Cut out the fin slot first.
Keep the small end cut corners clean. Here I'm cutting from the outside corners to the center of the small top and bottom. You don't want the corners cut wider than the long side lines or the shroud will open up and away from the fin.

Even if you cut carefully, the sides might still not have a perfect smooth curve. Run your finger over the sides and you can feel any bumps.

Roll some fine sandpaper over your finger and knock off any outside wide cuts.

I went ahead and slightly rounded the fairings. I didn't do a full forming yet, just prepping the fairing for the full curve later.
NOTE: The instructions have you paint the fins and fairings AFTER they are assembled. I prefer to paint them before gluing everything together. The masking is much easier this way.
If you paint the fairings before assembly they will be stiffer and maybe a little harder to form around the support pieces.

The fairings are held down on some masking tape, sticky side up.

The kit does supply you with extras parts, here is the fifth fairing. Prep the extras and pick the best ones for your build.
