Launch! Schoolyard, October 9, 2014

I haven't launched anything in a month! Cooler weather made it an easy morning. Heck, I didn't even work up a sweat!

On the left is the Art Applewhite BIC STIC PEN launched with a MicroMaxx engine. This is a easy, cheap high performance MMX rocket set up with streamer recovery. Est. altitude? 100 feet.
The flying pen plans are HERE. Click on MicroMaxx. A blog build will be up soon.
Next is the Odd'l Rockets FLAIR tested today with an Estes A3-4t engine. Stable to 250 feet with streamer recovery.

An old favorite, the Quest AS-1 ESCORT flown with a 13mm A10-3t friction fitted into an old B6-4 casing.
Altitude was about 200 feet. The delay seemed longer than three seconds and was nose down before the ejection went off. The parachute did open quickly with no damage on landing.

The Quest STRIKER AGM had it's 11th flight with an Estes B6-4, the best launch of the morning. I guess it peaked at about 325 feet.
I walked under it and caught it before it touched down. No damage.

This is the Red River Rocketry STARLINER used a A10-3t engine in a 5/20 adapter.
All was good with a boost to about 200 feet. The eight sided chrome parachute ejected but was caught up and didn't open.
It did bounce when it hit the low grass but no damage.

An Estes C6-3 engine can be used in this small field in the CD SPOOL.
Loud, slow and smoky. This thing tumbles faster on recovery than most finned boosters!
It got some applause from the early morning walkers at the basketball courts.
Estimated altitude, 225 feet.

It's the best flying season when the smoke sticks in the low grass. This picture was taken a minute after the Spool launch.
You can stomp on the grass and kick up the smoke.

Six up, Six recovered with no damage. That's a good start to the day.
