Quest Cobalt Clone Part 4 Engine Hook Retention

The XLEH Extended Length Engine Hook is 3" long.
By gluing the engine block BELOW the upper bend of the hook, there is no chance of tearing the motor mount tube if you have a strong ejection. The engine is effectively locked in place.
With a strong ejection, the engine is kicked backwards pulling down the engine hook with it. With the engine hook over the engine block ring, that area at the top of the mount is strengthened. There is no chance of tearing or loosening of the mount.


To use the Odd'l Rockets XLEH Extended Engine Hook, your engine mount tube must be 3" long, instead of the standard 2 3/4" length.

You could certainly used the Quest Engine Mount Assembly #00414.
But for me, the yellow Quest engine mount tubes are too thin. I prefer a stronger tube, especially around the engine.

Here I've marked the 3" long ST-7 (Semroc) tube at 1/2" and 1 3/4" from the rear.

These marks are for the centering rings to be made later.

A notch was cut for the end of the (longer) XLEH engine hook 1/4" from the front. The bent end of the XLEH is inserted in the notch.

Here's how to securely wrap the tape to hold down the engine hook:

1. Start the wrap 1/4 way (towards you, around the tube) before it lays over the engine hook. (First upper right picture)
2. Wrap over the hook and continue around the tube. (Picture at left)
3. Wrap over the top of the engine hook again and continue around 1/4 turn. Cut the tape and burnish.

You should have made 1 1/2 full turns of the tape.
The cut-off finish point is directly opposite where you started the wrap. The engine hook has two wraps of tape over it.
The other side of the tube has a single wrap.
