Dr. Zooch SLS Build Part 4 Engine Mount Shroud

Both the rings were just a little loose on the engine mount tube.
I built up the inside diameters with a ring of white glue.



This is the motor mount ready for the boat-tail to go over the lower end.

The forward ring was glued down from the top of the engine tube so I could fillet it on both sides.
The middle ring was glued 1 1/4" from the bottom.

I didn't glue on the rear small ring yet. The instructions say to glue it 3/8" from the bottom.
I want the boat-tail shroud to overlap only 1/2 of the middle centering ring. If I were to glue the lower ring on, the larger end of the shroud might not end up where I want it.
Without gluing the small ring on, I can play with the positioning to get the boat-tail just overlapping the middle ring.

In the picture you can see the rings have lines of glue, ready for the shroud to slide on. Once the shroud is in the correct position on the middle ring, the smaller ring will get a fillet of glue.

Before you go any further:
The Zooch instructions don't tell you where to place the shroud seam.
Ideally you'll want to hide it under a fairing seam to the side where the seam would be obscured by the SRBs. I mistakenly glued the shroud seam in line with the engine hook.

You should dry fit it all together before gluing the shroud in place.

The engine hook should be in line with the Feeder Line.
With the Feeder Line placement guide at the bottom of the BT-60 tube mark the Feeder Line placement.
With the engine mount dry fitted in place, rotate the mount until the engine hook is in line with the feeder line.
Dry fit the shroud, rotate the shroud seam until it is under the index line to the right.



Back to the build:
Look close and you'll see the wide end of the boat-tail overlaps just 1/2 the thickness of the middle centering ring.
Don't pay attention to the shroud seam placement shown here.
I had to go back and replace the shroud so the seam would be at the side as explained above.
