Ranger Clone Build Part 4 Engine Mount

These engine mount tubes are thin BT-20 based and the outside surfaces a little rougher than I would have liked.
A layer of 24 lb. copy paper was glued around the tubes. This is strictly structural and added a lot of strength to the low ends of the tubes.

Looking back, it would have been easier to do this before the engine hooks were glued in place!

All three tubes were dry fitted (no glue!) side by side in the longer BT-60 tube.

The tubes were turned until all three engine hooks were in the "open side area" position. You want to be able to raise the engine hooks so they easily clear the inside of the BT-60 tube.

From the rear, the tubes were pencil marked where they touched. These marks will be the glue lines.

Extend those pencil marks you just made down the length of each engine mount tube.
Each tube will have two gluing lines.

  1. What's the deal with your heading? Looks like part German.

  2. It's a little inside humor.
If you've never built a Der Red Max rocket (the rocket in the banner) you might not get it.
The Estes Red Max decal wording was done in broken German. Decals said: "Nicht Stompen", "Mitt Grabben" and "Motorverkens". There was even a fin decal showing the "kills". In the kills were battleships, trucks, a train, palm tree and an outhouse.
In the mid 1970s we all thought it was pretty funny. Some might consider it politically incorrect.
The Red Max was a goofy rocket. I tried to make a goofy banner for the blog.

  3. Your blog headers are great and get a lot of comments. It would be helpful to readers catching up on the blog if you did a post with the each new header picture then we would understand the comments and also appreciate the art and work that goes into each one.

    1. Hi Anonymous,
That's one of the drags about the blog. when you change the header, the new one is on all the old posts. It would be tough to relate to an old comment because the headers are gone! I rarely re-use them. Thanks for the compliment!
