Estes V2 Build Part 11 Semi Scale Fin Shape

From the G. Harry Stine scale drawings, I enlarged the scale fins to the same root edge length as the kit fins.

For stability, the kit fins are wider than actual scale.
"Stacking" the fins together gave me better reference point so I could make small adjustments that are closer to the real V2 details and shape.

This drawing is a compromise between actual scale and stability. It does give a good size reference if you wanted to add more details.

The V2 fins had sharp corners, not rounded like on the leading and outside edge intersection point.

The fin closest in the picture has been marked for trimming. Cutting down the outside edge by under 1/16" will get rid of the rounded corner and "square" it up.

The fin underneath has been trimmed. I don't think this small reduction in the fin span will hurt stability.

At the back end is another rounded over area. The fin on top has been trimmed with a sharp corner intersection.
This is a small adjustment that really makes a difference.

A Servo Pod is set on the fin to show what they'll look like.
Eight were cut from laminated craft or Popsicle sticks.

The pencil square in the corner are the rudder or air vane panels.

The servo pods and rudders are the most visible fin elements on most of the V2 pictures I've seen.
