Estes V2 Build Part 20 Fin Fillets

Grey primer filler was sprayed over just the fillet areas.
I could see an uneven surface and more filling needed.

Two fin root edges required a little more epoxy to widen up the lower end of the fillet.

Here I'm picking up excess epoxy off the back end of the fins.
This is an area easy to miss when applying fillets. Clean it up now and save yourself some sanding later on.

After the new fillets were dry, some 220 grit was wrapped around a dowel to sand and clean up the fillet.

More grey primer and sanding followed.

  1. Hey, great blog! Im finding it extremely helpful.
I am currently letting the engine mount dry, and figured I would look ahead. The fin fillets you did look great! What kind of epoxy did you use to create the fillets?

    1. Hi Ryan Rocket,
I'm glad the blog is helping out.
The "fillet" are on the real V2s widened from narrow at the top to a wider flare at the bottom. The epoxy used was the standard Bob Smith brand.
