Estes Patriot Build #2056, Part 15, Decals and Finished

The home print water slide decals went on without any problems.
I don't know how close it is to scale, it's a clean design just the same.

This one got some upgrades -
  • A 24mm engine mount with replaceable Kevlar.
  • A payload (altimeter) section was added using the red coupler for an adapter.
  • A 3/16" lug replaced the 1/8" kit lug.
  • Two different shock cords were added, a longer 1/4" cord for the lower section and a 1/8" cord for nose cone retention and altimeter attachment.

Build time:
Decal placement = 20 minutes
Total build time = 7 hours

Why is my name through the finished picture?
A few rocketry vendors are selling kits (making money) using my finished build pictures without permission!
What does it take? An email or phone call asking permission? Come on, knock it off!

  1. The Patriot always seemed boring to me, just four small fins and an unremarkable paint scheme but yours looks really good. Perhaps I'll reconsider!

  2. Hi Jim,
I felt the same way initially.
But, it is a perfect model for a 24mm upgrade and the upper yellow tube section makes a great payload.
Models this size with a BT-60 body are very strong.

  3. Are you kidding me!? Using your hard work for their profits! Jeesh!!!!! It would never occur to me to do that kind of thing.

On a different, but related note, I have told I don't know how many dozens of people at work about your site and we have been known to spend more than a "few" minutes discussing your builds and techniques and several folks have gotten into rocketry due to your work (or back into rocketry in my case). Thank You for all you do!

  4. Chris, could you post the location of your CG on this rocket as a measurement from the tip, without an engine?
It would also be great if you could make this part of all your final posts on builds!

    1. Hi Mushtang!
Not a bad idea! I will try to add that in the future.
I did a Open Rocket sim and came up with:
C/G with a C6-5 installed is 13.0" from the nose cone tip,
C/g with a D12-5 is 14.65" from the tip. The D engine is a .08 cal stability so I'll add a little nose weight.
