Cheap Igniter Case

I'd read on a forum where someone had found a small plastic case in the fishing department of a sporting goods store. He used it to carry extra igniters to the launch racks.

Not a bad idea.
We've all been there before. A burned through or broken igniter would mean a walk back to the car and maybe missing the next load of the rack.

I went to the fishing section at the nearby WalMart - nothing I could use.
All were too big with too many compartments.

I started thinking about what could protect a delicate igniter and would be slim enough to slip into a pocket. Then it hit me - I have extra floss containers in my bathroom.

I simply popped out the top cutter piece and threw out the remaining floss.
The igniters fit easily without bending.
The top snaps shut and fits in my jeans pocket.

LPR Estes igniters have a safe, dry case until I need them.
NOTE! Read the comment below from Tim. The new Quest Q2G2 igniters can be set off by a static charge. It's probably not a good idea to cary them in a container like this.

  1. One thought .... those plastic cases are non-conductive, and can therefore pick up a static charge. Probably doesn't matter much with Estes igniters which require a significant current for ignition. But those Q2G2 igniters can be ignited by static discharge - someone recently posted such an experience to one of the forums, in fact. So I'd be reluctant to carry the Quest igniters in anything but a static-safe (conductive) bag or box. Overkill maybe, but the old "better safe than sorry" adage applies.

Thanks for all the tips and for a great blogsite!

  2. I love reading through your blog archives, lots of great tips and money saving ideas. How about an Altoids tin for starters. Small enough to fit in your pocket and made of metal.

    1. Hi Eero,
The Altoids case would probably make a better case!
At the time I wanted something taller and went with something handy.
I did a search under Altoids cases and they have many other uses.
