Continue shaping the second contour with sandpaper while still attached to the dowel handle.
When the egg is shaped on both sides, cut it free from the dowel handle.
Here's the finished "egg" showing it's length at 3/16".
I went ahead a sealed the egg with two coats of clear dope, sanding between coats.
