This is the first Dr. Zooch kit I have built with through the wall fins.
The TTW fins are on the tumble recovery booster for strength.
One fin on the marking guide is set 1/16" away from the engine hook. This is so the root edge of the fin will make contact and glue on the motor mount tube.
The hook will be to the side of the fin root. You couldn't glue the fin root on the metal engine hook.
The marking guide shows the engine hook placement in relation to the fins and SRB locations.
The rear end of the fin slots are 1/4" from the rear of the tube.
Note in the picture, the filled fins are a little thicker than the slot lines on the marking guide.
I marked and cut the lines a little wider than the guide showed.
I used my aluminum angle to cut the straight slots. I don't know how you could cut the slots accurately without using an angle. If you don't have one, they are invaluable in model rocket construction.
TIP: Lift out one end of the cut slot before cutting all the way through the other side. This way it won't fall inside the body tube and be impossible to remove.
